I have a dark ring around my penis. Is it normal and healthy?

Question:

Hi!

I was circumcised as an infant and I don’t have any problems, but lately, I’ve been thinking about the fact that I have a dark ring around two-thirds of the way up my penis that extends to the frenulum and I have loose skin above the ring that looks nothing like the other skin on other parts of my penis. I just want to know if that is normal and healthy. I can’t feel it or anything and it just looks funny.

Answer:

What you are seeing is normal for a circumcised male. It is the scar tissue leftover from being circumcised. You probably didn’t notice it when you were younger, but now that your penis is larger and the skin is loose when the penis is not erect, it becomes more noticeable. It is very common for the circumcision scar to be a slightly different color from the rest of the penile skin.
