How do I get over being upset with my friend?

Last updated on October 9, 2020

Question:

Sir,

I don’t know but I kind of hate the fact that while I am talking to a very close friend of mine, whenever he says something bad to me, I think about it the whole day and sometimes for several days thereafter. I can’t concentrate on anything I do until I talk to him, and he says sorry. I want to get over it. How do I do that?

Answer:

You have basically answered your own question. When you have a problem with someone, you don’t let the problem fester. “‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath” (Ephesians 4:26). Instead, you deal with the problem directly.

Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering” (Matthew 5:23-24).

Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother” (Matthew 18:15).
