How do I help my cousin who is looking at porn?

Last updated on October 1, 2020

Question:

Well, it started on Christmas last year. My distant cousin had a PSP PlayStation portable. I was talking to him and he was playing with it. I looked at the screen and it said recent searches: porn. He got it off that screen before I could see more. I don’t know what to do. I barely know him and I hardly ever see him. I think he might have an addiction.

Answer:

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (I Corinthians 10:13).

Pornography is a common problem today because it is so easily found and teenagers do not have the experience to resist the excitement it offers. You could send your cousin an article like Lies Pornography Tells Men or A Look at Pornography. He may not appreciate it because few people like getting advice when they did not ask for help. But, still, it is worth a try. Hounding him about it won’t solve the problem, but a pointer to where he might get help may just arrive at the right time. It would do you good also to read the articles so you are aware of why you should not fall into the trap your cousin is in. Getting into traps is easier than getting out of one.
