I have a single red spot on my penis head. What can it be?

Question:

Hey. I saw that you answer questions about things down below, such as “sebaceous glands,” stuff, and STD things.

Well, I’ve got those normal white bumps and the sebaceous glands, but I also have one single red spot on my penis head. I don’t notice it being there. It’s not itchy, it’s like it’s not there at all, but I wondered what it is. A stretch mark maybe?

Answer:

Typically when a red spot appears, it is a sign of an infection, but usually you will also see a bump or in a serious infection the area will feel warmer than normal. The way you phrase your question, I assume this spot has been there a while without changing. So some questions for you:

  1. Have you been having sex?
  2. Have you been outdoors without clothes so that your penis might have gotten sunburned?
  3. How long have you had this spot?
  4. What is the shape and size of the spot?
  5. Are the edges well define?
  6. Is the red coloring even or does it vary?
  7. Is there a bump where it is at?

If I had to make an educated guess based on the little you mentioned, it would more likely be a small birthmark (a discoloration of the skin) due to a blood vessel being close to the surface of the skin, or discoloration left after a prior problem, like a pimple. It would not be a stretch mark, those come on the waist or thighs when a sudden increase in weight causes the skin to stretch and scar. Stretch marks are more like jagged lines. But the penis is designed to stretch, so you don’t get stretch marks there.

Question:

  1. Crazy story: when I was just hitting puberty my cousin and I had some weird thoughts. We were kids and didn’t know about anything. So we said “yeah, let’s practice having sex” and so we did. It’s crazy. I am not homosexual. I have a girlfriend now and at that age, none of us had HIV or any STDs. So I don’t know, dumb children’s choice. It has been bugging me for a lifetime and caused depression.
  2. No
  3. I don’t know, a while
  4. It’s a small one. A round little, red spot.
  5. Hm, what do you mean?
  6. The red color is even. It does not change.
  7. There is no bump. It’s like it’s not even there, I can’t feel it!

Answer:

I’m inclined to say it is most likely a small birthmark. If a disease was passed during your foolish days, it would have shown up long ago and in a different manner. Diseases rarely, if ever, stay looking the same. I would not worry about it. If it ever changes, and I highly doubt it will, then see a dermatologist about it. Meanwhile, enjoy life.

You shouldn’t let yourself get worried over foolish behavior in your past. You were young. You didn’t understand the ramifications of what you were doing. I suspect that if we dug into it, you might find that your cousin had been molested or exposed to pornography when he was younger. Young kids don’t understand or think about sex until it is pressed upon them. Not understanding its significance, they then do it to others. I get involved once in a while helping people break this vicious cycle.

Despite what is commonly touted, no one is a homosexual unless they choose to commit that sin. Just as no one is a fornicator unless they choose to commit that sin. You got caught up in something that you now realize was wrong. You left that sin behind. That is what you ought to do. Sin doesn’t define you unless you let it.
