I haven’t had a strong erection since I came down with a cold

Question:

I’ve had a cold since Thursday and can’t really get erections or morning wood. On Friday, I was able to achieve an erection easily, and it was a strong one. Since Saturday my erections have been weak, hard to achieve, and not lasting very long. I still think about sexual stuff but don’t get an erection thinking about it. I’m also less horny. Usually, after 2-3 days of not masturbating, I would only think about it but that’s not what’s happening right now. I haven’t eaten much in a few days as well. I usually masturbate every day, sometimes even two times, but I haven’t since Wednesday.

Second is this vein on my penis. It’s only visible when I roll back my foreskin. It’s quite dark and for some reason is bulging out when soft. I didn’t notice it Friday when I had my last proper erection. It doesn’t hurt to touch and I can urinate fine. I’ve been wondering if this has anything to do with my lack of erections. Perhaps the vein is nothing, and I’m stressing about it which is affecting my erections.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:

You’re expecting a bit too much from your body. It is trying to fight off an infection, which takes a bit of energy. You also haven’t been eating as well. Thus, your body puts more of the available energy into important things, like fighting off the infection and less in non-critical things like making semen or raising your blood pressure so you can have an erection. Just relax, rest, and recover. Your body will let you know when it is time to get back into the normal routine.

All adult men have a large vein that runs along the top of their penis. It is called the dorsal vein. It is usually seen when you are erect, but it can be seen when you are flaccid. You just noticed it because you’ve been looking for a reason why your erections have disappeared.
