I noticed blood in my pre-cum twice. I’m scared. What should I do?

Last updated on August 28, 2020

Question:

OK, so one day I was masturbating and some blood came out with my pre-cum. I peed afterward and there was no blood. I waited about 4 or 5 days and masturbated again and it was fine, but then today, about 2 or 3 days later, I masturbated and blood came out again in my pre-cum, but it was more. I’m scared, and I’m not sure if this is the beginning of a disease or if is it testicle cancer. I’m only 14, so I don’t really want to tell my mom and doctor that I masturbate. But it only came out in the pre-cum, and it doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t come out when I pee or anything. I just am scared and don’t know if this is a disease or an infection or something worse, so will someone please help? Please?

Answer:

First, takes some deep breaths and calm down a bit. Almost always blood in the semen or pre-ejaculate (pre-cum) is something relatively minor. Many times it goes away on its own without anyone figuring out what is going on.

That you don’t notice blood in your urine is a good thing, but it might be because it is only a small amount and all your urine is diluting it to the point that you can’t see it. Pre-ejaculate is thicker and comes out slowly, so it can pick up more blood on the way out and you can see it easier. Are you seeing any blood in your semen when you ejaculate?

I going to assume that at 14 you haven’t been doing sexual acts with anyone else, so we can eliminate STDs. I’m also assuming you aren’t feeling any pain or irritation, and that you haven’t taken a blow in the groin region. My best guess is that you have some type of infection in your urinary tract (the tube inside your penis). The most common one would be a yeast infection. The odds would be even a bit higher if you are uncircumcised and you haven’t been cleaning yourself properly. It would definitely not be something from your testicles since that would only show up in your semen.

Rather than take a risk, I need you to be a man and face your embarrassment. (I would offer to talk to your mom for you, but she doesn’t know me.) Your doctor won’t be at all surprised when you mention masturbating. Almost all men have masturbated; it is just not something you normally talk about. With your mom, keep it simple. Tell her that you’ve noticed small amounts of blood coming from your penis twice in the last week and you would like to get a doctor’s appointment to have it checked. You don’t have to fill in details as to how it came about, do tell her you’ve only noticed it twice so she doesn’t panic on you. The doctor is a different matter, you need to tell him and the nurse the details you told me. He will likely ask you to pee in a cup so they can test it for traces of blood and for the presence of any common bacteria or yeast. Likely he will give you a general antibiotic even if they don’t find anything, just in case. If he does, make sure you take all the medication according to the directions.

Let me know how it goes, and we can discuss what to do next.
