I want to get my ear pierced, but my parents will object

Question:

I really want to get my ear pierced. I think it’s really cool and I don’t think my parents would be okay with it. How should I tell them that I want to get my ear pierced? (I’m from a conservative community.)

Answer:

You can always ask politely. They may tell you no because what such a piercing may represent in your community. They might not object. You just don’t know until you ask. But if you are told “no,” then calmly accept that answer. When you are an adult you can make your own decisions and by that point, you just might agree with your parents — you never know.
