Why do I feel so good after exercising?

Last updated on October 8, 2020

Question:

Hi Mr. Hamilton,

How long do you think it will take to see some physical results from the exercise regime? Also, why do I feel so good after exercise?

Thanks.

Answer:

I suspect that you are already seeing results and realizing it since the changes are gradual. For instance:

  • Do you see that the exercises are getting easier?
  • Are you recovering quicker when you get done?
  • Are you adding more repetitions?
  • Are you sleeping better?

These are all important results. You might not see the differences immediately in the mirror, but that is because the changes from yesterday to today is not that much. Instead, compare a picture of you today to one from several months ago and then you’ll notice there have been changes. Compare yourself to a picture from a year go and you’ll see obvious changes.

The reason you feel better is because when you exercise two hormones are released. One, endorphins, blocks pain and makes you feel better. The other, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, helps repair your neurons and acts a reset. The result is that you think more clearly after exercising, which also feels good. Also, make sure that you change your exercise regime every month or so that they don’t get boring and so that you use different sets of muscles.
