Will exercise affect my surgery for testicular torsion?

Question:

I’m 21 years old. I had a testicular torsion about 6 months back and it was operated on. Fortunately, my left testis didn’t die and it was attached to the wall of the scrotum. One week back I started going to the gym for the first time. Will this affect my testicles, especially the torsioned one?

Answer:

Exercise at this point will not harm you. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to completely heal after surgery. Patients are typically told to avoid strenuous exercise for the first two weeks and then gradually go back to their normal routine. It is has been far longer, so you should have nothing to worry about.

Since you have shown a tendency toward torsion, you don’t want the same thing happening to your other testicle. Wear a jockstrap or compression shorts when you are exercising or playing sports. Like everyone, wear a cup when involved in sports where you might get hit in the groin.
