Why do I get erect when I leave my foreskin pulled back?

Last updated on October 9, 2020

Question:

Hi there,

I have a question on pre-cum and retraction. When I retract my penis for a long period of time, it starts to get erect itself. After a longer period of time, it starts dripping some clear fluid. Is this normal?

Is it okay to leave my penis retracted, for example, a whole week or month? Even if I got my boxers on?

I am going through puberty. I have pubic hair and a deep voice. I also masturbate daily and ejaculate. I also get erections frequently, if that helps.

Thank you for your help!

Answer:

When you retract your foreskin, the novelty of the feeling causes you to get sexually aroused. That leads to an erection and the dripping of pre-ejaculate fluid. Such is perfectly normal. What will happen over the course of time is that you’ll get used to the feeling and it won’t cause the same reaction as it does now.

Keeping your foreskin retracted for long periods of time is not recommended because it can interfere with the blood flow and might cause the foreskin to swell. Therefore, it is fine to expose your glans for an hour, but not for a whole day. Hopefully, your foreskin should slide back into place when you lose your erection.
