How much could I grow?

Question:

You probably get this question a lot from boys, but I’m curious how much could I grow. I’m nearly 14 years old and 5’10.25. My father is 6’0, and my mother is 5’6. My Tanner stage is 4.3-4.4. I know my brothers’ heights: one is 6’2, and the other is 5’10.75. My 6’2 brother is still growing at around 19-20 years old if that’s useful. My growth trends are as follows:

  • From ages 10-11, I went from 4’11 to 5’4.
  • From ages 11-12, I grew from 5’4 to 5’8.
  • From ages 12-13.7, I increased from 5’8 to 5’10.5 (my current height).

I eat pretty nutritiously and get enough sleep. I also get decent exercise and weigh around 145 pounds. I’m hoping I could hit 6’2 —6’3. Is it likely? If not, what’s my most likely adult height? I know I’m not done growing, but I’ve grown an inch and a quarter since January (it’s currently July).

Answer:

Your growth rates do indicate that you are in early stage 4. Most boys grow about 1 to 3 inches during their two years in stage 4. Given your growth rate, I would assume you’ll be on the high side of that, so expect another 1-2 inches before you are completely finished.

Question:

Thank you. So I’ll probably be 6’0-6’1 is what you’re saying.

Answer:

Yes, that seems most likely.
