Question:
I was wondering why my voice sounds younger at times but also deeper at times. My voice also breaks sometimes, and when I go out of the house and come back, it sounds way younger than before. It was much deeper before I went outside.
Answer:
Let’s simplify what is going on. Have you ever toyed with the strings on a guitar? If you loosen a string, its tone goes down. Loosen it too far, and the string starts bumping against the other strings, causing odd sounds. Tighten the string and its tone goes up.
Your voice box enlarges, and your vocal cords increase in length. It takes a while for your brain to learn just how much tension is needed to get the desired tone. Thus, at times when you are focused on other things, your brain may loosen your vocal cords too much, and they bang into each other, causing your voice to squeak. When you are stressed, nervous, or even breathing heavier from exercising, your vocal cords will tighten, which causes your tone to rise (sound younger).
All of this will settle down in time. It usually takes about a year to adjust to your larger voice box.

Thank you so much.
