Question:
Can a man ejaculate without having sex?
Answer:
Most boys experience ejaculations without sex. Nocturnal emissions are the body’s way of getting rid of excess semen by ejaculations while you are asleep. Your body goes through the stages of sex, but you are not actually engaged in sex. Sometimes boys discover ejaculations in other settings, such as while bathing. When the seminal vesicles get full, the slightest things can set off a chain reaction. A boy might be washing his genitals and suddenly experience an erection that rapidly proceeds to orgasm and ejaculation. He could be in bed, roll onto his stomach, and the pressure against his penis triggers the sequence that leads to ejaculation. Especially early on, these sudden ejaculations will catch a boy unawares and might not even be accompanied by any “sexy” thoughts.
Surveys indicate that the majority of boys eventually try self-stimulation to reach the point of orgasm and ejaculation. This purposeful triggering of the sequence that leads to ejaculation is called masturbation. Some boys just use masturbation to keep their physical desires for sex under control. Unfortunately, some boys enjoy masturbation so much that they will fill their minds with thoughts about illicit sex to get their bodies aroused. Jesus warned us not to desire things that are unlawful for us to do. “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). Whether the looking is physical, through a picture, or through your imagination it is wrong to engage in desiring to have sex with a woman to whom you are not married.
