I have dry, dark patches on my glans that are spreading. What should I do?

Question:

Sir,

I have a problem with my penis head. A few weeks ago I happened to see dry skin on a small, thin portion. The skin was slightly black in color. I removed it. After that it looked like a wound on my penis, looking red after I remove the skin. Now it seems to be repeating. There are the same dry patches and I felt like itching. It also feels like there is some irritation inside the penis tube and the surrounding area. The entire head of my penis has become dry and the same wound appears near the urine hole. I want to know why it’s happening. Please help me.

Thanks.

Answer:

Given that it is spreading, I want you to see a doctor as soon as you can. If you can, see a dermatologist (one who specializes in skin problems). Most likely you have a fungal infection, but there are a few rare diseases that share the symptoms that you have and it is best to have a doctor what you have and the best treatment.

If it does turn out to be a fungus, the doctor will have you use an anti-fungal cream. Follow the directions carefully and use it as long as it is prescribed. Too often the symptoms go away and young men stop using the medication too soon. The result is that it comes back and is harder to treat.

If it is a fungus, then there are several things you can do to keep it from happening again. Fungi are small plants and need a warm moist area in which to grow. The trick then is to interrupt the growth.

  • Don’t wear the same clothing 24-hours a day. At night, when you are sleeping, wear something completely different than what you wear during the day. Get a light pair of pajamas or shorts to wear at night without underwear. Or you can sleep in the nude. This gives your skin a chance to dry out and heal.
  • After showering, make sure you dry off completely. Wait a bit before dressing again, so use the time after showering to shave and take care of other toiletries. If you are in a place where others might come in, wrap a dry towel around your waist until you are ready to get dress.
  • Don’t put on the same clothing you wore before showering; otherwise, you are just re-introducing the same things you just washed off back on your skin.
  • If you have been out doing something that has gotten you hot and sweaty, change completely as soon as you are done into something clean and dry.
