Question:
Hello,
I am in stage 4.2 and have been experiencing limb growth for a short period (arm, legs, and feet). Is this normal for my stage? I’ve taken the Tanner stage calculator many times and got around 4.1-4.2. I also have stage 4 genitals. I’ve grown 2.5 inches in 6 months.
Answer:
Please understand that you are basically asking for confirmation that you are actually in early stage 4 while it appears you are growing rapidly as in stage 3. However, I can’t see you, and I don’t have enough information to point out something that you might have overlooked.
Then, there is the problem of the calculator not being absolutely precise. My goal is for the calculator to be within 0.25 of where you are in your development. Since you are at the beginning of stage 4, it could be off, and you are at the end of stage 3.
Finally, individual growth is highly variable. You could be at the beginning of stage 4 but are experiencing a delayed growth spurt. Such might be normal for you but unusual for most boys.
Question:
Thank you for telling me this information. It helps a lot. Do you think there is any information I could tell you to make this more accurate? Do you think there’s a chance that I can grow another 2.5 inches within the same timeframe?
Answer:
I need to know your height measurements for the last five years. That would give me a better idea of your growth pattern so far.
If you would like an estimate of your final adult height, you can use several of the calculators on the page Predicting Your Adult Height.
