Is a weight gain of 10 kg too much in three months?

Question:

Hello sir,

Over the past three months, I have gained a considerable amount of weight (approximately 10 kg or 22 pounds), and I believe most of it is due to growth-related factors, as I’m currently in Tanner Stage 3. However, this weight gain also makes my face look rounder, which I don’t like. Should I try to lose a bit of weight?
Is gaining 10 kg during a growth spurt reasonable, or am I simply overeating?

Answer:

I can’t see what you see. I would need to know your current weight and height. A 10 kg gain is significant, but I can’t tell you if it’s too much by just knowing the amount gained.

Dieting is not recommended during growth, as you don’t want to deprive yourself of the necessary nutrients. However, you can eliminate all the junk food you’re eating. The body doesn’t need those treats. It won’t be a complete diet, but since you are growing, it will likely lead to you slimming down.

Question:

I’m 167 cm tall and weigh 73 kg right now.

Answer:

At 167 cm, a weight of 69 kg would be more suitable. However, you are likely to grow enough to absorb the extra weight. As I mentioned earlier, it’s best to eliminate junk food from your diet for a while.
