Question:
I’m 13 years old and uncircumcised. I don’t know if I have hit puberty yet. My penis is still small, but I have some armpit hair and I have some pubic hair. I don’t know when I am going to hit puberty. So can you help me out?
Answer:
You are well past puberty. Puberty means the point in time when you start changing from a child’s body into an adult’s body. Children don’t have armpit hair and pubic hair. Dr. Tanner divided the transition from child to adult into five stages. Stage 1 being a child and stage 5 being an adult with the stages in between being the changes. I wrote a calculator to help you estimate what stage you are in. It is at Tanner Stage Calculator for Boys. My guess is that you are in stage 2. Answer the questions and at the bottom, it will give you a number to estimate your stage. There are also five links at the bottom which describe each stage. Also, take a look at “What Is Happening to Me?” to learn about how you grow and “Learning About Your Body” for information about your male parts. If, after reading all of this, you have additional questions, you are welcome to write to me again.
