Why do I feel ill when reading about circumcision?

Question:

This is going to sound strange. I am new to God’s word, but whenever a passage in the Bible mentions circumcision, my stomach gets weak and I can’t read the passage. Is this is a sin? How can I get over this? I have read about Jesus Christ dying on the cross and did not have this problem; it is only with circumcision. What should I do?

Answer:

What I suggest is not to worry about it. I suspect that with Jesus’ death, the circumstances seem remote because people aren’t killed on crosses these days, so it isn’t something that might directly affect you. But circumcision involves the penis and that is very personal to every man. There is no reason to get worked up over it since there is no requirement for circumcision under the law of Christ. “Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called” (I Corinthians 7:19-20). It isn’t something you need to have done nor will your children need to have done.
