Question:
Hey,
I am 15 years old, and I’m 5’7. A lot of kids my age are a lot taller than I am. I started puberty at around 12-13 years old, so I don’t know what that means. I wear a size 10 in shoes, and my feet are bigger than a lot of people. I am almost my dad’s height (within 1/2 inch). He says that I’m supposed to be really tall, around 6 feet. I do have hair on my crotch and some under one armpit, but not really much on the other. I’m trying not to worry about it, but I’m just curious.
Answer:
It is good you are not worrying about it because worrying won’t make you taller, but it will ruin a lot of days for you. “And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (Luke 12:25).
To estimate a boy’s adult height, you average your mom’s height and your dad’s height. That will typically be the shortest a boy will grow to. The highest is up to ten inches above the shortest height. There is no guarantee that you’ll reach the tallest point. That completely depends upon the genes you have. There is a calculator to help you estimate your final adult height.
Shoe size and when you started puberty won’t tell you a thing about how tall you’ll end up being.
Another calculator helps you figure out where you are in development. See the Tanner Stage Calculator for Boys.
