Question:
I recently got a bone age scan and it says the growth plates in my wrist are still seen but fusion is advanced. How much height could I gain realistically? I’m 17 and started puberty late.
Answer:
You didn’t mention what bone age value you received, but I’m guessing from your description that you are in stage 4. Boys during stage 4 typically grow an additional 1 to 3 inches in height. I can’t tell you much more because I don’t know if you are in early or late stage 4.
Question:
My bone age is 17.
Answer:
A bone age of 17 is equivalent to Tanner stage 5. It means you are basically done with your growth in height. Given that, you really didn’t start puberty late. You are right at the average for males.
