Do you think I can still have a growth spurt?

Question:

A question: I’m currently at stage 3.9, but I haven’t had a growth spurt or anything like that. I’ve had acne for almost two years. My armpit hair is starting to grow. I’m almost 17 years old. My brother has a delayed bone age. Do you think I can still have a growth spurt? Another thing, my left egg is more droopy than the right one and much smaller than the right one.

Thanks.

Answer:

You need to remember that I can’t see you to fill in information that you don’t mention and I can’t verify that the information you did mention is accurate.

Some boys don’t have a dramatic growth spurt. They do grow more rapidly than they did in childhood, but it is more drawn out than coming in a few months. Since you didn’t provide any numbers, I can’t answer your question further. You are basically at the start of stage 4, so your rate of growth will be gradually decreasing over the next two years. Your growth will stop when you reach stage 5.

One testicle is supposed to be lower than the other testicle. This allows the testicles to slide by each other when you walk and run without banging into each other and causing you pain. Typically, one testicle is slightly smaller than the other. If there is a dramatic difference in the sizes, then it would be best to ask your doctor about it the next time you see him. The doctor might decide it is within the normal range or that it indicates a potential problem.

Question:

I wrote very briefly, I’m sorry. I didn’t grow much from ages 12 to 16. My growth was 4 cm at age 13, 3 cm at age 14, 3 cm at age 15, and 2 cm at age 16. I measured my testicles, but, like you said, I’m close to finishing at age 17 being 5’4.

Answer:

Notice that your rate of growth has been decreasing. It hasn’t stopped yet. You will likely add another 2-3 cm to your height before you are fully done growing.
