Am I already done growing?

Question:

Hello,

I am 16 years old and I am 5’4″. My dad is 5’7″ and my mom is 5’0″. Did I have a growth spurt yet? How tall do you think I can be? I don’t even have facial hair, it’s just peach fuzz and I barely got armpit hair. When I went to the doctors at age 15, they told me I would stop growing at 5’4″. Well, I guess that doesn’t make any sense because I am 16 years old, and I’m 5’4″ right now. Don’t I still have many years before I stop growing or did I stop growing at age 16?

Answer:

You’re asking me to make a guess based on almost no information. The minimum height you would have grown is 5’3.5″ (the average of your parent’s height). So the doctor saying 5’4″ was a very safe guess. The little you mention indicates a boy in stage 3, which means you are still growing. If you are in stage 3, then it would be hard for me to guess how much more you will grow since you would still be in the rapid growth phase. When a guy crosses into stage 4, the typical guy grows another 1 to 3 inches.
