Does the feeling I had mean that God sent this girl to me?

Question:

Hey, first off thanks for running your site! It’s great to have found one of these sites that has a Christian point of view.

My question is this:

Just under a year ago, I met a girl at church. We had never met or seen each other before, but when we met I got this amazing and indescribable feeling, and to me, it looked like she felt it too. The funny thing was that the night or two before I had been praying to God for a girl that I could really get to know and maybe, just maybe, later get into a relationship. I know that this sounds like a fairy tale “love at first sight” or desperation, but I can’t explain that feeling, so could it have been God saying “Here she is!” Not necessarily my future wife, but you know what I mean. I am secretly hoping she will be as I don’t think we would have become friends if it weren’t for that meeting and feeling.

We have gotten to know each other a bit. It’s a little hard when I only see her about every second week, but she seems to like being with me, and I really enjoy being with her and look forward to when I know I’ll see her.

Sorry this is so long, but has been on my mind for a while, and I am too shy to tell anyone I know.

Thanks heaps!

Answer:

When it comes to God’s providence in answer to our prayers, it is hard to know from our point of view just what God did. All we can look at are the results.

Feelings have no determining factor. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). God leads through His teachings. You don’t find God giving people vague feelings and leaving them to guess His intentions. You liked this young woman and felt good about her even before you got to know her. That does make it easier to get to know her and so far all you have learned about her affirms that she might be a good choice in the future. Let’s leave it at that and thank God that you someone to make life interesting for you.
