How can I be friends with a girl but not like her anymore?

Question:

There is this girl that I have known for about a year and a half.  She and I texted a lot when we first met, but we couldn’t date.  Ever since then she flirts with me and I flirt with her.  I try to just let her go, but I can’t seem to fully let go.  I want to remain friends, but every time I am around her a lot I fall back into the same cycle.  How should I still stay her friend, but not “like” her anymore?

Answer:

I don’t understand why you can’t like another person (girl or not) without having to consider them as someone you have a romantic interest in. Or are you saying there is more to this flirting than teasing about liking each other?

Question:

I’m saying that when I see her and talk to her a lot, then she starts flirting with me and I fall into the trap of wanting to date her again. She has a boyfriend, and she still acts like this. I want to get to the point where I can see her and talk to her but have no desire for anything more than just being friends.

Answer:

It may not be possible because the problem is on her end and not yours. She is not committed to the boy she is with at the moment. A girl who tries to get multiple boys romantically interested in her isn’t a safe girl to be around because your mind will always be battling your body.
