How often should I measure my height?

Last updated on August 4, 2020

Given the fact that I am in late Stage 4, and 5’9″ or 5’9″1/2, how unlikely are the chances that I’ll reach 6 feet by my 17th birthday next June? And how often should I measure my height? I measure myself all the time. It’s become a bad habit and I’ve become obsessed with doing it. People say I’ve measured myself at the same height for so long is because I’m always measuring myself and not giving it enough time to see the changes. Is this true?

It is not likely you will reach 6 foot. You may reach 5’10” or 5’10″1/2, depending on how “late” in stage 4 you are. Most of the growth you are going to see is in wider shoulders and larger muscles.

Yes, you can easily become obsessive — it is a typical teenage trait. Measure yourself once a quarter or even twice a year if you can stand to wait that long. But you should measure like you were going to get fitted for a suit. Then you will see how you are growing. Height is just one measurement. Here are some others:

  • Neck size
  • Sleeve length
  • Bicep
  • Shoulders
  • Chest
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thigh
  • Calf
