I’m worried that my penis is too slim

Question:

Hi.

I was just wondering why I might have a thin penis girth despite having normal length. I read online that this could be caused by having low DHT during puberty despite having normal testosterone levels (hence why my length is fine). I was wondering if this is correct, and since I just turned 18, if my girth could still grow. I don’t have any problems in my family that I’m aware of; in that regard, everyone leads a healthy life.

I am less than 4.5 inches in girth. I measured at 16, and it was 4.3 (at best). I haven’t noticed much growth since then, although it’s probably grown marginally. I remember I tried on a condom and it was too wide, which made me feel extremely emasculated, so I’m too afraid to check now. I also have problems with my erection quality.

Many thanks.

Answer:

The average male penis is 4.6 inches in girth when fully erect. The normal range goes from 4.2 to 5.0 inches. Therefore, you are well within the normal range for males. Low DHT during puberty will affect the overall size of the penis (length and girth). Since you are in the normal range, this should not be a concern.

Condoms don’t come one-size-fits-all. You probably would need a regular or “snug” size condom. However, this shouldn’t be a concern until after you get married. Sex before marriage is a sin.

Several factors influence erections. If you are worried about your erections, they won’t be strong because you won’t be sufficiently relaxed to allow maximum blood flow. [Kimberly Holland, “Can Stress and Anxiety Cause Erectile Dysfunction?“, Healthline, 1 July 2017].

Question:

If I am in Tanner 4.6 or 4.7, how long might I have left to grow?

Is a growth of .5 inches in girth possible at this stage, or is it likely more or less?

I have no chest hair, only a happy trail to my belly button. I have hair on my chin and upper lip, but very little (barely noticeable) in the sideburn region and none on my cheeks or jawline. I shave every 4 or 5 days. My length stopped growing rapidly around 16.5 years old. I believe I have grown about an inch and a half since I was 17, as I was around 181 cm, and I am now 185 or 186 cm. I just turned 18. My parents are 5’10 and 5’6. My face doesn’t look dramatically different from what it did at 17, but it is definitely slightly different. Hair is filled in the pubic region, but there’s not much on the inner thighs. It still looks patchy in parts.

I’m just wondering if this sounds like 4.6 or 4.7 to you. The reason for my concern is due to condom sizes when I get married, and just my self-confidence in general. I would be content with the commonly cited average of 4.5 or 4.6, but currently, it is around 4.3.

Many thanks.

Answer:

It is about 2 years per stage, so about another 6 months of growth in height, though you will continue to grow in shoulders, hair, and mental changes. The amount of growth in the last 6 months will be minimal (a ½ inch or less).

Your girth may also increase slightly. However, understand that large penises are uncomfortable for women due to the stretching of the vagina. The way the vagina works, it will adapt to your actual size in a few months. In other words, your wife won’t care or notice.

Question:

Do you have any idea how much it could grow in girth?

Answer:

There is no way for me to predict it. I don’t know of any detailed studies of penis growth in teenage boys to draw generalizations from.
