Is it healthy to pull back your foreskin and it bleeds?

Last updated on October 8, 2020

Question:

Hi,

I’m uncircumcised and one day I pulled my foreskin back. It tore away from the head and started to bleed a little. It bleeds every once in a while when another part detaches. Now it feels weird whenever I pull it back. It seems I can pull it back too far to be natural. Is this healthy and should I get it checked out?

Answer:

Your foreskin should be able to pull back to completely expose the glans (the “head” of the penis); however, you are going about it in the wrong way. By forcing it back, you are tearing your skin and causing bleeding. If there are still sores present, put some antibiotic ointment on the wounds to help encourage it to heal.

Meanwhile, the proper way to encourage your foreskin to separate from your glans is to pull it forward. See:  The skin on my penis doesn’t pull back all the way to release the tip of the penis.

If you are curious what it is supposed to look like fully separated, see: Flaccid to Erect.

Thank you so much I was hoping someone would reply because I didn’t want to ask my dad.
