Question:
Hi!
I’m 16 years old and I was wondering is it natural for my left testicle to be facing the wrong way? The testicle facing toward me while the spermatic cord faces away from me. It scares me that I might have testicular torsion. What should I do?
Answer:
Such conditions do exist and are called having an inverted testis. It is not the same as testicular torsion, though some people believe that those with an inverted testicle are more prone to get testicular torsion since the testicle already has a half twist. Basically, it is not a problem. There is some evidence that it is a genetic trait.
Testicular torsion is extremely painful — to the point of doubling you over in agony. Though originating in the scrotum, you feel it mostly in the abdomen.
