Is stage 2 mostly hidden changes?

Last updated on April 22, 2022

Question:

Is stage 2 mostly just hidden changes like the testicles increasing and pubic hair or will I also change from the outside?

Answer:

Technically, pubic hair is an external change, it is just hidden by your clothing. However, there are other external changes. During stage 2, your hands and feet increase in size — sometimes dramatically. Then during stage 3 your arms and legs lengthen, which is what causes the growth spurt. Finally, the spine lengthens which isn’t as dramatic, but it does add a few inches and the shoulders widen.

Your growth spurt in stage 3 typically occurs 1.5 years after your peak rise in shoe size [Iris Busscher, “The value of shoe size for prediction of the timing of the pubertal growth spurt,” Scoliosis 20 January 2011].
