Question:
Hello Sir,
I am 16 years old. I am about the same height as my dad, who is about 5’8. My mom is 5’3-5’3.5. Much of my growth was after 14 years when I was 5’1, and most was between 15 and 16 when I grew 3.5 inches. After that, I had a little growth pause and then recently again shot up 1-1.25 inches in the last 3-4 months. My current Tanner score is 4-4.1 in the last 2-3 months.
I noticed I was changing around the age of 13.5 and 14. That is when I got downy pubic hair. My voice cracked and deepened around 14-15 years.
How much would you expect me to grow, and when do you think growth might likely finish for me? Can small spurts still occur at stage 4, like in my case (1-1.25 inches)?
Answer:
Boys tend to grow 1 to 3 inches during their two years in stage 4. You are beginning that stage and will reach stage 5 in about two years. Stage 5 is when growth in height stops. During stage 4, you will grow fastest near the beginning, and it will gradually decrease to zero at the end of the two years. The growth will come in short spurts.
I can’t tell you how much you will grow, but you can use the various calculators on the Predicting Your Adult Height page to estimate your final height.
