Thank you for your website, it is very helpful.
I have a question or problem. I’m not sure why, but after I ejaculate, about an hour or so later, I get like an erection that won’t go away. It’s kind of painful and feels like the hardest thing ever, even though it isn’t. And for reference, it’s not like I am super harsh or do stuff every day. I do it maybe once a week.
Why does this happen? Is something wrong?
In order to fully answer your question, I need to ask for some additional information:
- How long does the painful erection typically last?
- Are your erections painful at other times or only the one after ejaculating?
- How long are you typically erect before you ejaculate?
As for why your erection is painful, it is because your penis hasn’t recovered from the prior erection. When you have an erection, blood flows into the penis at high pressure, but muscles clamp down on the veins that return the blood back to the lungs. This causes the penis to enlarge and stiffen. However, it also means the only oxygen that is available to the tissue in your penis is what is already in your penis. No fresh supply is coming in. This is normally not a problem because most guys can’t hold an erection for more than 30 minutes. You lose the erection and the oxygen-starved blood is flushed out and fresh blood comes in.
This is why most guys are uncomfortable getting erect again soon after masturbating or having sex. It takes a bit of time for the tissue in your penis to “catch its breath.” Pain typically means that the nerves in your penis are screaming that there isn’t enough oxygen.
You might have a rare condition that is called priapism. There are several types of priapism and some, oddly enough, are related to another disease called sickle-cell anemia. Others are caused by genetic disorders.
To respond to your questions, the painful erections typically last 10-30 minutes. My other erections are not painful, only the one after ejaculating. I’m only erect for a few minutes before ejaculating because I try to get it over with fast.
Thanks! God Bless.
The good news is that your answers rule out priapism.
I found a thread on a forum of guys describing exactly the symptoms you have. What the men found to work the best was to make sure to get as much semen as possible out right after ejaculating. To do this, press firmly on the area between your legs and work your way forward to the tip of your penis. It is sort of like squeezing the last of the toothpaste out of a tube. Do it several times, until no more semen drips out of your penis. Then force yourself to pee to clear out any remnants. Some of the guys said that they drink a large glass of water shortly before masturbating or having sex so that they would need to pee after ejaculating.
No one seems to know whether it is the massaging that helps while you are getting rid of the excess semen, or whether it is that for whatever reason their “plumbing” leaves too much semen behind. However, there were enough replies saying that the technique helps that I think it would be worth trying. If this theory is true, it would also mean that you don’t want to masturbate while sitting. That position would put pressure that would limit the passage of semen. You would be better off masturbating while standing or lying down.
Let me know if this helps you or not.
