Question:
Good afternoon,
My son is 13 and a half years old. He is 158 cm tall, his mother is 167 cm, and his father is 177 cm). This last year, his rate of growth has been slow (about 3.6 cm/year). He had an X-ray of his hand and had a result of 13.3 years old. The Tanner Stage, according to your calculator, is 3.0. Shouldn’t his bone age be higher? Will it reach its target height even after this break?
Thank you.
Answer:
The scale on the Bone Age test is given in years. In theory, it represents the growth of an average boy. However, most boys are not at the average. Most boys are above or below the average. Your son’s Bone Age says he is developing slightly later than the average boy, which is well within the range of what is considered normal. You’ll need to be patient. He will finish out his growth as God intends.
