Question:
I have some questions about growth in height and muscle growth.
According to the Tanner Stage calculator, I’m at 4.2. I’m currently 15 and began puberty at 11. I had my main growth spurt when I was 13 when I grew from about 5’3 to 5’8. I’ve now grown to around 5’10-11. I’m not sure if I’ve stopped growing in height as I’ve heard some people gain an extra inch when they’re a little older. Will I be able to grow any more?
My next concern is about muscle growth. When will I start to get bigger muscles? I read that your muscles, like the chest, grow bigger in puberty. Currently, I have a little bit of chest muscle from doing push-ups and a little bit of bicep and shoulder muscle from using dumbbells. I really do wish to get bigger as I only weigh around 126 pounds.
Answer:
Assuming the estimate is accurate, and I have no reason to think it is not, then you are at the beginning of stage 4. During stage 4, which lasts about two years, boys will add another 1 to 3 inches to their height.
Muscle growth also begins during stage 4 and will continue into adulthood.
Response:
Thank you so much!
