Will I have another growth spurt?

Question:

Hello,

I am nearly 17 years old. I am 170 cm (5’7″) tall. I had not grown until summer time last year. In a very short time, I grew 3-4 cm in about 3 months. After that gain, I didn’t grow anymore. My Tanner Stage is 3.9-4.0. Have I slowed down since transitioning to Tanner Stage 4? Could I suddenly grow taller again this summer? Or am I small? Can I expect a 10 cm extension after this period even if it is not finished? My father is (5’6″ to 5’7″) but my father used to do drugs a lot at my age. His father, my grandfather, is 190 (6’3″).

Answer:

The definition of Stage 4 is that growth slows down sort of like a car coming to a halt. When you stop growing completely, you’ll be at stage 5. Meanwhile, you’ll grow the most in this next year and it will keep diminishing until you completely stop. The typical boy grows 3-8 cm during stage 4.
