Question:
My parent’s average height is 5”4” so the maximum height for boys in my family is 6’2. Do you think I can reach that height? My Tanner Stage Calculator result is 4.8.
Answer:
Just because the various mixings of your mother’s and father’s genes could lead to a child who reaches 6’2″ it doesn’t mean you inherited that particular combination. At stage 4.8, you have less than a 1/2 inch of additional growth left.
Question:
I was looking at your other posts where you say late bloomers tend to grow up tall and slender. Is it the exact opposite for early bloomers? I was a pretty early bloomer. I remember I grew my first pubic hair at age 11 or 12. I’m also built very stocky. Do you think if I had been a late bloomer I would’ve reached 6”2” the maximum height?
Answer:
What people suspect is that the gene combination that causes a person to reach puberty later also tends to cause guys to grow tall and slender, probably due to timing with the other parts of development. But even late bloomers don’t often reach the maximum height in a family. Early bloomers do tend to be a bit shorter, but that doesn’t necessarily lead to being stocky.
