Question:
I have a question. I have this pimple-like thing on the shaft of my penis that is .5 cm wide/long and reddish colored. It does not hurt and it just randomly appeared. I have never had sex. Is there something wrong?
Answer:
It could be a number of things, but it is best to assume it is something common. Since I can’t see it, I’ll give you the two most likely things:
If it feels itchy, looks red, and has no white bump in the center, most likely you have a bit of jock itch. Jock itch is a fungus that can appear anywhere on the skin where there is enough dampness. When it appears on your feet it is called athlete’s foot. The cure for that is to get some spray or cream for jock itch from your nearby pharmacy. Be sure to follow the directions carefully. You have to use it for the entire time specified, otherwise, it is likely to come back.
If it has a bump in the center, then most likely you have an infection, similar to acne, but it just happens to be on the shaft of your penis. Get some antibiotic ointment and put it on the area twice a day.
If there isn’t a sign of things improving in a few days, make an appointment to see a doctor so he can determine what it is and give you the appropriate medication to kill off the problem.
