I think I’m at the beginning of stage 3. What do you think?

Question:

I think I am at the beginning of stage 3 because I have just started growing a little bit faster (about an inch and a half in the last four months). The hairs on my legs are still not very dark, and my penis is just now starting to get a little bit longer. Also, I have only dripped clear fluid twice, and that has been in the last week. Would you evaluate this, please?

Answer:

Based on what you told me, it does sound as if you are in stage 3. I’m judging this mostly on the fact that you are growing rapidly (faster than two inches per year) and that your penis is getting longer.

Pre-ejaculate fluid (precum)

The clear fluid you see is formally called pre-ejaculate fluid, which comes from the Cowper’s glands. The purpose of the fluid is to clear your urethra (the tube in your penis) of any leftover urine and “grease” the tube in preparation for ejaculation. What this means is that your body is getting close to being able to ejaculate semen. There are a number of glands that must each come to the proper level of maturity before you can ejaculate. From here on, each time you get sexually aroused, your Cowper’s glands are going to produce pre-ejaculate fluid just in case you end up ejaculating. Of course, most of the time you won’t, but your body has no way to tell.

Question:

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I hate to bother you, but I just wanted to ask you one more question. Do you know if I am at the beginning, middle, or end of Stage 3? I just would like to know how much growing time I have left.

Answer:

You are not giving me much to go on, but stage 3 typically lasts 2 to 3 years in a male [Puberty – Normal Growth and Development]. Since you noticed that you started growing rapidly four months ago, you would have about 18 to 30 months of growth to go.
