Question:
Hey, man, I hope you doing well. I appreciate the work you do. I’m 16 years old, 182 cm (6’0), and 71 kg (156 lbs).
I’ve been at Tanner Stage 4.2 for about a year and my penis hasn’t gotten any wider yet. It’s 18 cm (7 inches) in length and 11 cm (4.3 inches) in circumference. I don’t remember it growing bigger! I just have some hairs on my chin and upper lip and 2 or 3 hairs on my sideburns. I just wanted to know when I’m going to have some facial hair and get my penis wider?
Answer:
I’m doing well.
Let’s start with some basic facts. The typical adult male’s erect penis can be anywhere from 7.5 cm (3 inches) to 20 cm (8 inches) in length. The average is 13 cm (5.25 inches). The typical adult male’s fully erect penis is anywhere from 9 cm (3.5 inches) in circumference to 14 cm (5.5 inches). The average circumference when fully erect is 11.5 cm (4.6 inches). In other words, currently, you are quite a bit longer than the average male and only slightly off from being average in circumference. Even if nothing else changes, you would be well within the normal range for men.
The reason you see your penis as thin is that we judge sizes relatively. Since you are longer than most men, even though you are average in circumference, it looks thin. Since you still have time in stage 4, I would not be surprised if it gets a bit larger in girth before you stop growing.
While facial hair starts to come in during stage 4, it takes several years for it to get thick and full. In other words, you won’t be able to grow a full beard until you are past stage 5 by a year or two.
Based on the pictures you’ve sent of your trunk and lower face, I would estimate you to be about halfway through stage 4 or a little further. You have lower stomach hair. Hair is faintly beginning to show in the center of your chest and around your nipples. While you only have a few dark hairs on your chin, you have a large number of vellus hairs that are getting longer and will turn dark soon.
